Out of Control ~ Excerpt from 'Mission: Impossible to Forget'

He wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her against his body. Her every curve pressed against him, teasing him. “Emily, I’m barely in control. It isn’t the way I want our first time after how I’ve screwed up. I want you to be treated the way you deserve.”

“Having you out of control is perfect—not thinking, not protecting, but you as a man, needing me as your mate, your woman. Not the responsible US Marine captain, but Nick Jenkins, the man who needs my love.”

Emily, her head and shoulders thrown back, her mane of dark curls flowing around him, was like an avenging goddess. She was a force to be reckoned with, and he was the man who’d step up.

“I was so bitter and exhausted when I came to Sausalito. And there you were, all light and joy. I’ve been lost without you.”

She cupped his face into her hand. “I’m here now. And I’m not leaving, no matter what crazy ass ideas you get about protecting me from yourself. Take me how you would have if we hadn’t been interrupted. How you fantasized.”

He slanted his mouth over hers and kissed her with everything he had while he walked her back until she reached the bedroom wall. He gripped both her hands in one of his and forced them over her head, opening her to his stare, his touch.

“I’ve dreamed about punishing you for making me want a life I could never have with you. For ruining me for any other woman or any other future without you.” He kissed her, stroking his tongue against hers before he lifted her against the wall.

She clasped her hands behind his neck and locked her ankles at the small of his back. Nick shifted his hold, lifting her, aligning their bodies for the perfect fit. Heat burned through him. In that moment, he felt as if he had been cold all his life until Emily.

Basso profundo. With deep tessitura. ~ Excerpt from 'Mission: Impossible to Forget'

Emily was having the best dream. Nick whispered to her, his musky male scent and warmth enveloping her in a cocoon of safety. She didn’t want this dream to end, but she already knew he would leave her alone and afraid.

“Emily. Wake up, honey.”

She moaned at the sound of his melodic bass voice— the rich and flawless tone resonated in his highly developed chest muscles.

“Emily.”

She lingered in the pleasure. “Basso profundo. With deep tessitura.”

“Honey, you’re dreaming about your music. Wake up.”

She reached for him, rubbing her hand along his rough stubble. It felt exactly as she remembered. “This dream feels so real. Kiss me, Nick. I want to feel your lips on mine.”

She felt his soft lips brush across hers. She opened her mouth, wanting to taste him. She’d never forget his tender and demanding kisses. “Please, Nick.”

“Emily, you need to wake up.” He used the rumbly sexy voice she liked.

Why was he insisting she wake when she was happy? She felt a rough hand on her arm. She opened her eyes, trying to orient herself. What tour…What hotel was this? Stella began licking Emily’s face.

“We need to get going.”

What was wrong? Nick’s voice had gone from soft to fortissimo loud.

“Emily, wake up.”

“Nick?” Her dream had conjured the real Nick.

“Yes. It’s Nick.” Now he sounded irritated. What had she done?

More Than Friends? ~ Excerpt from 'Mission: Impossible to Love'

Nick Jenkins climbed the stairwell to Emily’s second floor apartment, playing every scenario in his mind. What if Ben and Emily were in the bedroom? Undressed. He shut down the idea. He would deliver Reeves’ message, he’d get answers to reassure himself that she was safe, and then get the hell out of there.

His heart was ratcheting all over the place. This was never the way he expected to see Emily. He planned to see her at his brother’s wedding months from now as a distant stranger. The one thing he learned from all the losses he endured over the years: Time helped everything. But he wasn’t going to get the bloody time and distance.

He reached the top step. And his eyes couldn’t take in the sight. Emily was in the arms of a tall blond dude in the hallway across from her apartment. Not Ben, the famous singer. Where was her date?

By the way her head rested against the guy’s muscular chest, they were more than friends.

Red flashing lights exploded in front of Nick’s eyes. His finely-tuned control over his body and his delusion that he was over Emily shattered into primitive and possessive rage.

“What the hell?”

Meet Stella the French Bulldog

Although Mission: Impossible to Forget is a contemporary romantic suspense, there are still details I research. I’ve had great fun learning about French bulldogs since this book features one of these adorable canines.

Stella, Emily’s dog in Mission: Impossible to Forget, isn’t based on Stella in the TV show Modern Family but a real dog I “met” during my time performing for the Seattle ballet. Her owner used to bring Stella backstage to help calm the children before their performance.

In Mission: Impossible to Forget, Stella is companion to professional cellist Emily Hewitt. If you aren’t acquainted with this breed of dog, here are a few characteristics that make them one of the most popular breeds.

With large bat ears, French bulldogs are small enough to be suitable for city dwellers. They stand 11-13 inches and weigh under 28 pounds.

The breed has an even disposition, is playful, alert, entertaining, and adaptable.

Frenchies aren’t excessive barkers, but they are territorial, making them good watchdogs.

French bulldogs are “talkative”. They snore, grunt, yip, and make other odd noises.

The Joys of Researching Romantic Suspense

I’m still in production mode, getting words on the page for Mission: Impossible to Forget which releases April 1. The research has been a delight, I must say.

I’m a huge fan of music and the performing arts so learning about professional musicians has been fascinating. I discovered 2CELLOs, a duo of young Croatian cellists Luka Sulic and Stjepan Hauser.

They are so talented and very attractive (a must for romance authors and readers!). You can enjoy a performance by 2CELLOS on YouTube.

Coming April 1, 2020

Available for preorder on Apple Books | Kobo | Nook | Google Play
