October 2nd News and Giveaways from Jacki Delecki
Coming this month!
She’s a nerd turned ninja…
Working as a top-secret biochemist, Danni Knorr was kidnapped and almost killed by terrorists who wanted her research. After narrowly escaping with her life, she vowed never to be a victim again. To confront her fears, Danni becomes the kind of woman no one dare mess with, learning martial arts and firearms. She’s traded in her lab coat for a holster, working as a kickass personal bodyguard for a famous rock star. But she’s in way over her head when she stumbles onto drug cartel business—business that could get her killed.
He’s a bad boy hiding a broken heart…
Lars Jenkins is the Spec. Ops Marine rescued Danni when she was kidnapped. In the months that have passed since then, he can’t get her out of his head. While she’s hot as hell, she is trouble with a capital T. The woman attracts danger like a magnet—a sexy magnet, which is why Lars stays away from her. He was hurt once and won’t allow it to happen again. But when a friend calls in a favor, Lars finds himself helping Danni once more and the chemistry between them is more explosive than ever.
Stuck together again, the two decide maybe mixing pleasure with business isn’t the worst thing that could happen. The worst thing would be getting killed by the drug cartel hunting them.

I Zoom. Do you Zoom?
Last week I presented a workshop with two other publishing professionals at the Pacific Northwest Writers Association’s conference. I’ve led workshops before so it doesn’t sound like a big deal until I casually mention it was a virtual workshop. Indeed, the entire writers conference was virtual. I’m sure some people were skeptical, but let me tell you – it was a great experience. It was also a new experience.
Aside from Facetiming with family members or the occasional Skype call, I rarely participated in video calls. Knowing I would be presenting virtually was a bit intimidating but it turned out to be easy. More importantly, it was fun. We had more than 55 people “attend” our virtual workshop, which is a great turnout.
To prepare, I did some research and assembled a few tips for making my conference call experience positive. I’m happy to share them with you.
- Check out your surroundings. Take a few minutes to declutter your background, remove items you don’t want to show, or set up on an area without visual distractions.
- Prepare for your video call by downloading the app or creating an account with the video conference service if required.
- Log in early to make sure you have a good connection.
- Mute your microphone if you’re in a group call. Background noise can be very distracting.
- If you aren’t familiar with video call technology or commands, practice with a friend first.
Video calls are becoming a common way for coworkers, organizations, and groups to stay in touch. These tips can help you relax and enjoy connecting. Oh, one final tip – if you’re wearing pajama pants, don’t stand up during your video call!
Regency Theatre Traditions
Attending a play at the theatre was a popular Regency attraction. However, things looked a bit different than they do now. It was common to arrive late and to talk throughout the entire performance. Vendors also sold goods during the show. How would you feel about this audience style?
